Enrolled as an Advocate with Bar Council of Rajasthan in 1983 and started practice in District Courts and High Court of Rajasthan at Jaipur Bench with his father, Late Sh. D. L. Bardhar, Senior Advocate.

During practice, remained Library Secretary, Executive Member and General Secretary of High Court Bar Association, Jaipur. Alsoworked as Additional Government Advocate for Government of Rajasthan inRajasthan High Court at Jaipur Bench and was Panel Advocate of New India Assurance Co. Ltd, Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd, National Insurance Co. Ltd and United India Insurance Co. Ltd and also remained Panel Counsel of Union of India.

Selected in Rajasthan Higher Judicial Service in 2001 and stood first in the merit. 

During Judicial Service, remained District & Sessions Judge, Sri Ganganagar, District & Sessions Judge, Bharatpur, Registrar (Vigilance) and Secretary Law-cum-Director Litigation, Government of Rajasthan. 

Elevated as Additional Judge of High Court of Rajasthan on 11.04.2016.

Appointed as Permanent Judge, High Court of Rajasthan on 16.03.2018.

Superannuated on 31.10.2021.

Joined Armed Forces Tribunal, Regional Bench, Jaipur as Member (Judicial) wef 05.12.2022.

Hon'ble Shri Sanjiv Mittal , IDAS (R)

Shri Sanjiv Mittal joined the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) in 1984 after having qualified Civil Services Examination, 1983. Prior to his appointment as Administrative Member, Armed Forces Tribunal, Regional Bench, Jaipur, Shri Mittal was serving as Financial Adviser (FA), Ministry of Defence from where he superannuated on 30 June 2022. In this assignment, he looked after all matters requiring financial advice for the five departments in Ministry of Defence, viz, Department of Defence, Department of Defence Production, Department of Military Affairs, Department of Defence Research & Development and Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare, including formulation of Defence budget and monitoring of expenditures in r/o 4 budgetary grants of Ministry of Defence.  The main areas of responsibility were policy formulation, financial management, service matters, etc.  

Before his appointment as FA in Ministry of Defence, Shri Mittal was appointed as CGDA, where, as the Head of the Defence Accounts Department (DAD) his responsibilities included administration and Cadre Management and service matters of all officers/staff of DAD numbering about 20,000 and matters pertaining to finance, accounts and audit of the Defence Services viz Army, Navy and Air Force besides all other allied organizations under Ministry of Defence, viz, DRDO, BRO, ICG, DGDE, IDS, Ordnance Factories, etc.  He also worked as Additional Secretary in Ministry of Defence, Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Border Roads) and Addl CGDA before taking over as CGDA..

Prior to that, he had served in various offices of Defence Accounts Department.  He also has vast experience in various Ministries of GoI such as Culture, Agriculture, Surface Transport, Statistics and Programme Implementation, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Sports and Defence on deputation at various levels viz Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Director, Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary. He was also appointed as Director General, National Museum, New Delhi; Vice Chancellor of NMI, a Deemed University and Director, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library besides Director of Rampur Raza Library at Rampur.  Additionally, as Secretary, Oil Industry Development Board under Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, he was  given the responsibility of CEO, Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council.

In November 2009, Shri Sanjiv Mittal was especially picked up by Government of India for the Organizing Committee, Common Wealth Games Delhi 2010. In this assignment his responsibilities included Finance and Accounts, Catering, Ticketing operations and procurement of goods and services for smooth conduct of Common Wealth Games held in October, 2010 in Delhi.

In his career spanning over 37 years, Shri Mittal has had a varied experience of working in different sectors of Govt of India. He also represented India in various international conferences on Museums and Heritage matters.

Shri Sanjiv Mittal assumed the charge of Administrative Member, Armed Forces Tribunal, Regional Bench, Jaipur on 12 December 2022
